What made him start – “I would steal cigarettes from my father and start smoking them with my friends”


What encouraged him to quit smoking - “My father was a smoker and died of a heart attack at age 60. I told myself that before I turned 40 that I would quit smoking”.


Some things that helped him quit – “I kept myself busy at work and played my guitar to keep my hands occupied”.


Advice for someone who wants to quit - “You’ve got to want to quit, not only for yourself but for the others you love. I believe that when you get past the first several days it gets easier”.�

Searching for a Few Smoke Free Success Stories
The Tobacco-Free Coalition of Delaware County has been helping county residents quit smoking for several years.  Now the coalition is looking for ex-smokers who are willing to share their success stories with the community in order to motivate those who have not yet quit. 

"Success stories are a fantastic way to give hope to those who are burdened by the nicotine addiction" says Cecilia Williams, program coordinator for the coalition, "Since one of the biggest challenges smokers face is the belief that they can quit, these stories will provide testimonies of those who believed that they could quit and succeeded"
